We welcome all adults at Calvin Church into on open, caring, and accepting community (usually 3 - 12 people) that grows three purposes together:
- Loving God
- Loving Others
- and Going and Making Disciples (followers of Christ)
Life groups grow these purposes in a variety of ways such as studying the Bible together, supporting and encouraging each other, participating in social outings, and joining together to serve others. When groups meet regularly for these purposes God’s mission happens and people grow. We get excited about that! As of winter, 2012, we have life groups for men, women, couples, and individuals. Here are some opportunities to explore:
- Prayer Group
- Thursdays at 10:00am, Calvin Church members gather to pray for our church, its ministries, and our community. If you would like to learn more about prayer or if you have a need in your life that you would like someone to pray for then we invite you to join. All prayer requests are kept confidential.
- Sunday afternoon/evening groups for couples and individuals
- These groups meet for about 1.5 hours weekly or every other week to connect with each other, study the Bible, and pray together. Currently one group is reading Crazy Love by Francis Chan and another group is studying Sun Stand Still by Steven Furtick.
- Wednesday evening Discover group for men and women
- Every Wednesday from 6:30 - 8:00pm a group of members and guests meet to discuss our lives, the church, and what we believe. We often have questions but do not know who to ask or are afraid to express doubt. This is a confidential setting where we can be straight and to the point. The Walking with God study series is used.
- Monday morning Women’s Group
- This weekly gathering of women meets from 10:00 - 11:30am for study, support, prayer, and friendship. Currently this group is studying Bad Girls of the Bible and What We Can Learn From Them by Liz Curtis Higgs. This group has served together in a variety of ways including coordinating fundraisers for our youth programs.
- Wednesday evening Women’s Group
- Every Wednesday during our girls and boys clubs (GEMS and Cadets), from 6:30 - 7:45pm women meet to connect with each other, study the Bible, and pray together. Currently this group is reading Crazy Love by Francis Chan.
- Wednesday Group for Moms
- Every other Wednesday from 9:45 - 11:00am moms with young children meet to encourage each other and study God’s Word, while kids have fun playing together. It's a great place for moms and their kids to find friendship. Currently this group is using the study, Grace: An Invitation To a Way of Living by John Ortberg.
- Mens Life Group
- Men of all ages gather the first and third Thursdays of the month from 6:00 - 8:00pm. They eat supper together and then watch and discuss DVD Game Plan for Life by Joe Gibbs. This groups always welcomes newcomers at any time throughout the year. This group has served Calvin Church in a variety of ways such as painting and setting up for events.
- Seniors Life Group
- Senior adults meet every other Wednesday from 9:30 - 11:00am for fellowship, prayer, Bible study, and social outings. They recently read the book,My Healing Journey by E. Dobson. This group will resume meeting in April.
- Thursday afternoon Women’s Bible Study with Lynnelle Pierce
- Bible teacher, Lynnelle Pierce, leads women in an in depth study of the Book of Luke every Thursday from 1:30 - 3:00pm. Members read the Bible and answer homework questions on their own throughout the week.
- Mentoring Opportunity
- For a predetermined amount of time a spiritual mentor commits to helping someone grow in their walk with God. Through the study of God’s word (often using a curriculum), a mentor teaches another to listen to God so that it forms how he or she lives. Often a mentor shares their knowledge, past experiences, and skills in order to help another person live more faithfully in the present. Mentoring someone or being mentored can be a great way to grow in your walk with God.
- We are in the process of creating contact links for life groups. At this time please call the church office more information regarding life groups.
